Hemsworth MP Jon Trickett has added his name to Early Day Motion 413, which recognises the importance of quality school meals and calls on the Government to take further steps to ensure that all school children have access to the best quality food in schools.
Jon Trickett said:
I, along with thousands of teachers, parents and caterers are concerned that the Government is not doing enough to protect the school lunch service. Local authorities are already being asked to make substantial cuts to their budgets and food is seen as an area to make easy short-term savings.
The EDM recognises that good school food and food culture can improve children's health, behaviour, motivation and ability to learn and achieve, as well as supporting British farming and local jobs.
Saving money on school food costs and quality is a false economy and will mean undoing all the hard-won improvements to school meals in recent years.
