MP URGES DEMENTIA PLAN BACKING
Local MP Jon Trickett has called on the Government to put full backing behind a draft National Dementia Strategy. The Government have set out proposals for changing the lives of people with dementia and their carers. Jon is asking that the funding be put behind the strategy to make the proposals a reality.
Around 700,000 people in the
A number of constituents have written to Jon asking him to back the proposals – some sharing experiences about how hard life as a carer of someone with dementia can be. Symptoms of dementia can include speech and understanding problems, mood changes, memory loss and confusion. In severe states this is very distressing for those suffering from dementia and the people who are looking after them.
Jon said:
‘Dementia is a very sad and very debilitating illness. It takes its toll on family members who are caring for sufferers and can be very hard to deal with. We should make sure as much support as possible is available’
‘The draft strategy asks for things like awareness campaigns so that people understand what dementia is, more resources being put in to early detection of the illness and improving the general quality of care for dementia sufferers – all these things, when put together, could make a big difference.’
