BOGUS CALLER ALERT!

LOCAL MP URGES RESIDENTS TO BE CAREFUL

Jon Trickett MP is warning local people to watch out for bogus callers who may mainly be visiting the homes of elderly people.

Jon was alerted to the problem by a constituent who received a knock on the door from a smartly dressed man; the man indicated he had come early for an appointment and then asked to use the toilet as he had been travelling on the motorway.  He allowed the woman to think he was from the NHS or Social Services.  The elderly lady was confused and let the man in, he went straight upstairs and then left immediately.

Jon Trickett reported the matter and after visiting the couple, the Police believe this was a bogus call.

Jon said:

“I am very concerned about this. There are many elderly people across our constituents and in the Express area and I don’t want them taken in by anyone knocking on their door in a smartly dressed suit.  Residents shouldn’t let anyone in without checking their identity - particularly if they are not expecting anyone.  Genuine callers will always be happy to make an appointment to call and will carry an identity card with a photograph”.
