Local MP launches Neighbourhood Policing Strategy

Jon Trickett this week attended the launch of the local Neighbourhood Policing Strategy, championed by Inspector Tim Boswell (pictured).

Neighbourhood Policing Teams have reintroduced the old concept of the "bobby on the beat" with NPT officers being able to conduct daily high visibility foot patrols in their beat areas, engaging with and interacting with the local community once again.  These teams serve to improve confidence in communities by ensuring that neighbourhoods are not only safe but also feel safer.

Jon Trickett said:

"Local policing pledges now mean that the people of Hemsworth now have a real say in how their streets are policed.  Local problems need a local solution and this type of policing guarantees that.

We now have a stronger police service than ever before, with police numbers at a historic high –  nearly 15,000 more officers than in 1997 (an increase of more than 11%), alongside 16,000 police community support officers.

We must stand shoulder to shoulder against anti-social behaviour and crime, which can’t be done without the community’s support and involvement.  David Cameron’s talk of a broken society is defeatist and a counsel of despair; we have to put faith in our excellent police force to do the best job they can by the communities they serve."

There are now more than 3,600 NPTs across the country, which are working to reduce crime and since 1997, crime has fallen by 39 per cent.

The Tory record on crime from 1979 to 1997 speaks for itself: crime doubled; violent crime rose by 168%; the number of convictions fell by a third; the chance of being a victim of violent crime trebled and being a victim of burglary more than doubled.
