The national results show that 120,000 more pupils are leaving primary school equipped to succeed in their next school than in 1997. Record numbers of children are achieving the expected level in English, maths and the two subjects combined.
Jon said:
“These results are truly testament to the dedication and hard work of our local primary school teachers. I am sure they will all be proud of their pupils’ success and parents too must take a share of this as encouragement from a child’s family is vital to their education. I have written personally to all the Head Teachers in my patch to pass on my congratulations.
These are good results but we know there is more to do. We are committed to ensuring that pupils who fall behind are spotted quickly and that support is put in place to help them. That is why we have funded Every Child a Reader and we are piloting Every Child Counts.”
