The EDF Energy Green Fund is made up of contributions from its own customers, who pay a ‘Green Tariff’, amounting to around £15 extra per year, which is then matched by EDF Energy. Any non-profit, charitable or educational organisation can then apply for funding to cover the cost of renewable energy technology such as wind turbines, solar panels and ground source heat pumps.
Any one project may receive a grant of up to £30,000 and since its inception, the fund has made awards in excess of £3.7 million to more than 200 community projects.

This is a fantastic scheme, which I would encourage all local schools, charities and other community organisations to apply for. The funding has allowed many projects to become completely energy self-sufficient, which is a very significant step towards tackling climate change, an issue that I know many of my constituents are concerned about.
The fact that the fund relies on its customers, as well as money from EDF Energy, means that customers are genuinely contributing to these green projects and feel they have a real part in helping the environment.
