Carers Week supported by local Lloyds and MP Jon Trickett

Hemsworth and South Elmsall MP Jon Trickett is thanking carers for their valuable contribution to society and celebrating carers week this week.

There are around 9,000 carers in the local area and nationally, the six million carers save the country an estimated £87 billion per year.  Lloyds Pharmacy at 6 Market Street in Hemsworth is supporting the work of carers by extending their offer to provide them with a free health check.  Jon Trickett visited the store this week to pledge his support and to see what the service was all about; he said:

“The work of carers is so vital in helping ill, frail or disabled family members or friends.  The impact of the isolation, stress and exhaustion, plus the physical strain that can come with caring, is made clear by Carers UK research which shows that carers are more than twice as likely to suffer ill health as the general public.

Too often carers are unable to take time off to have checkups or look after their own health, and this offer gives carers the opportunity to access quick checkups as they collect prescriptions or do their shopping.

I have also written to the Carers Minister asking him to bring forward the pledge in the National Strategy for Carers that, by 2018, carers will be supported so that they are not forced into financial hardship by their caring role.  A lot has been done but there is still more to do.”

The Labour Government has done much to help carers who have to or choose to work and Jon Trickett has supported the Equalities Bill, which offers equal treatment for carers.

To book an appointment with Lloyds carers should ring first on 01977 610874 and bring with them to the appointment the voucher that was issued by the Carers UK magazine.
