MP issues summer safety warning

Jon Trickett MP has issued a warning to children and parents as the schools prepare to break up to be aware of the hidden dangers over the summer months.

Jon said:

The school holidays are coming up and whilst it is fantastic to have such a long break it is also a time, sadly, when we hear of tragedies as children enjoy being outdoors.  Having spoken with people who have experienced the trauma of losing a child in tragic circumstances, I would not wish for any other family to go through what those families are having to suffer for the rest of their lives.

Jon is hoping to alert those who care for young children and teenagers to the potential dangers from playing close to water, railway lines, roads and even electricity pylons.

Only last week we heard of a lad in Yorkshire who was electrocuted climbing on an electricity pylon.  Every summer we seem to hear of at least one tragedy of a young person drowning as a result of getting out of their depth in the sea, a lake or a local river, or playing on railway lines.

I am campaigning to highlight these dangers and will also be contacting the British Transport Police, British Waterways and other agencies to seek their support in ensuring our children play in safety this summer.
