Hemsworth volunteers doing their bit for their community

Volunteers in Hemsworth have been putting their knitting needles to good use to help keep vulnerable babies cosy.  Women from Hemsworth Older People's Enabling Forum (HOPE) and Hemsworth Methodist Church have knitted 19 cot blankets, 27 matinee coats, 66 bootees and 246 inty hats for the premature baby unit at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

They have also knitted 88 teddies for 'Tragedy Teddies', an organisation which provides dolls in various war zones and areas of famine and poverty across the world.

Jon Trickett went to look at their work and expressed thanks for all their hard work.  He said:

I have nothing but praise for the women who have given their free time to work so hard to produce so many teddies for children in distress.

The spirit of generosity and caring for others is a very strong feature of our area and I think it is important that we pass on our appreciation.
