£400 Vouchers off new Boilers as part of Government Scheme up for Grabs!

The Government’s Boiler Scrappage Scheme comes into effect this week meaning that all those with the most inefficient boiler rating of ‘G’ can apply for a £400 voucher towards a new A-rated boiler or a renewable heating system, like a biomass boiler or heat pump.

The Energy Saving Trust are administering the vouchers and householders and Landlords can now register for a voucher by either calling the Act on CO2 Helpline on 0800 512 012 or by logging on to www.energysavingtrust.org.uk.  Applicants will then be able to find out if their boiler is G-rated or worse by answering questions.

The first 125,000 households that apply via phone or website will receive vouchers from 18 January onwards and householders will then be free to appoint who they want to do the work, provided they are GasSafe registered.

Anyone with a G-rated, working boiler who owns or privately rents their home can apply and people over 60 years old qualify regardless of whether the boiler they are scrapping is in working order.

The Government’s Boiler Scrappage Scheme has already triggered some companies to complement, and in some cases match, the offer and it is expected others will follow suit.

Local MP Jon Trickett said:

“Old boilers can add as much as £200 a year to fuel bills but they are very expensive to replace.  I am delighted that the Government has introduced this scheme to allow people to make savings both now and in the future.  On top of this, it will help sustain work for local installers and UK-based boiler manufacturers.

These vouchers are on a first-come first-served basis, so I would strongly recommend that anyone who thinks they might apply look into this as soon as possible”

The reduction in boilers will also vastly reduce carbon emissions; it is estimated that the savings will be the equivalent of taking 45,000 cars off the road.
