This month saw the five-year anniversary of the Hunting Ban, which Jon Trickett voted for back in 2005 and as the Labour candidate for Hemsworth in 2010, he will be backing the ban once again.
But today he is issuing a warning that 70% of Conservative Parliamentary Candidates have said that they would vote to repeal the Act and so they would have a significant chance of doing so if the Tories were to win the General Election.
Jon Trickett said:
Parliament spent many hours debating the detail of the ban on hunting, to produce the Act we have. Now if he were to win the election later this year David Cameron wants to bring back the pursuit of foxes, deer and hares by dogs.
7 in 10 Tories think that hunting should be allowed, which corresponds almost directly with the 73% of the public that believe hunting should remain illegal, which shows just how out of touch the Conservative Party really are.
Admittedly, there is more to do that could strengthen the Ban and make sure that more people are prosecuted for breaking the law but that doesn't mean we should scrap it all together.
