A number of local people have contacted the office of Jon Trickett MP regarding websites that charge to book tests provided by the Driving Standards Agency. This is a problem that Mr Trickett had been made aware of and raised it in a recent e-newsletter to constituents.
There are several websites that offer people the opportunity to book their theory or practical driving tests and charge more than the standard fees that the DSA charges. In addition, there are several driving schools that are similarly offering to book tests for their students, at a profit for the school.
Jon Trickett said:
“I am becoming increasingly alarmed at the schemes certain companies and individuals have come up with during the recession to make money. Many people are paying out money unnecessarily.
Booking a practical or theory driving test should not cost the individual any more than the fee for the test if booked directly with the Driving Standards Agency. I am informed that some Driving Training schools are charging people to book the actual tests and I want everyone to be aware that they are able to do this themselves, very easily, through the DSA website.
I will report all websites and companies that I feel are operating outside the Trading Standard regulations and ensure that the Minister responsible for the issue is made aware of it in Government. I’m very grateful to all those who’ve come to me about this and would encourage anyone else who comes across anything similar to let me know”
