Welcome to my website

I am proud to represent the Hemsworth constituency and see my role as Member of Parliament to make sure the voices of people in our area are heard and that the core Labour values that have shaped our community are not forgotten.

I also see it as my responsibility as the local MP to provide an office that knows the area, understands the problems people face and is sensitive to the needs of the area I am fortunate enough to represent.

I have a strong team based in Parliament and, more importantly, in the centre of Hemsworth. My constituency office is open to the public five days a week.

Staffing Policy

Strict regulations apply to how our staff are employed and are the subject of Regulations issued by IPSA. Details can be found on their website, which you can access though this link: http://parliamentarystandards.org.uk/Pages/default.aspx

I have no vacancies for staff at the present time.  If and when there are vacancies, they are advertised on this website and elsewhere and appointments are conducted on an equal opportunities basis.

Intern policy

I believe in paying the living wage. I follow a strict policy on interns which complies with the Interns Aware policy, which you can read here: http://www.internaware.org/act/resources/

Occasionally I have university students who work with us as part of their university course, but I operate strict rules on this. The internship has to be a mandatory part of the course, without which they could not complete their degree and is therefore carried out on a voluntary basis. If your course requires you to spend time with an MP, you must ask your University or College to contact me directly, and I will give consideration to their request. Within my constituency office I receive many requests for mandatory internships and within Hemsworth I normally prioritise those that come from within my constituency and local Universities
