Thank you to all of the people who brought to my attention the extremely important MND Charter. I recently signed the Charter which has the aim of making sure all people with Motor Neurone Disease receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

The charter has received over 20,000 signatures so far and is made up of the following crucial points:

1. People with MND have the right to an early diagnosis and information

2. People with MND have the right to access quality care and treatments

3. People with MND have the right to be treated as individuals and with dignity and respect

4. People with MND have the right to maximise their quality of life

5. Carers of people with MND have the right to be valued, respected, listened to and well-supported.

I agree that more needs to be done to further improve care and support for people with MND. It is important therefore that the Government look at new ways to encourage the development of new drugs and non-drugs based treatments alongside other types of available treatment, such as care facilities in communities, and assistance for patients at home.

I hope that the MND Charter will help inform Government and commissioners about the requirements for healthcare, social care and welfare amongst people with MND.

You can sign the charter too by visiting the MND website. Your three minutes could make a big difference: http://www.mndcampaigns.org/take_action/304_mnd_charter
