I am backing the campaign to make Minsthorpe Lane in South Elmsall safer by introducing a 20mph zone.

The campaign comes after an 11 year old girl was hit by a car on the road, suffering serious head injuries, and tragically, an 85 year old man died having been hit by a lorry in the same week, on the same stretch of road.

Serious consideration needs to be given to the introduction of a 20mph limit on Minsthorpe Lane in order to stop future tragedies. 20mph zones have been shown to cut down on accidents and minimise injuries.

As so many local people will agree, we need to keep pedestrians, school children and road users safe. I previously campaigned to stop lorries using the road as a short cut to South Kirkby and now I am asking individuals to support the campaign for greater local road safety and sign the petition.

I hope this campaign sends a strong message to Wakefield Council that something needs to be done.
