On Tuesday I was joined by George Monbiot and the other authors of Land for the Many to discuss the bold ideas in their new report to the Labour Party, why land really matters and how we can shake up the unjust ways it is owned and controlled. The event was packed, with over 100 people crowding in a committee room for an evening of debate.

And it’s much needed. Half of England is owned by less than 1% of its population. And in the UK the value of land has risen dramatically, from around £1 trillion in 1995 to over £5 trillion today. This means housing, farming, even access are out of reach for growing numbers of ordinary people. This needs to change.

This was the first of many events taking place over the summer. The next Land for the Many event is Friday July 5 in Manchester. You can find out more here.

I’ll be adding a new post to this website on Monday with more details of the event.
